Capturing the Spirit of Katmai National Park
This branding project for Katmai National Park draws inspiration from the indigenous Aleut people, particularly their traditional hunting hats and swirl motifs, which are incorporated into the logo design. The visual identity reflects both cultural heritage and the park’s iconic bear-watching experience, especially during salmon season.

Discovering local culture and wildlife to inspire Katmai’s new look
The Aleut are the indigenous people native to the Katmai region. One of the most striking aspects of their art is the swirl motif found on traditional hunting hats, believed to represent movement, water, or spiritual power. Katmai is also renowned for bear watching during the salmon run and is known for its lush landscapes, hiking trails, and mountains. These cultural and natural elements shaped the foundation of the visual identity.
